Sheridan Fuels supply fuel to the domestic and commercial market. Over the past year James Sheridan the company director designed and manufactured a coal bagging system. This bagging system has left James in a better market position for supplying very competitively priced fuel. James is now looking into other methods and markets of fuel production, with biomass briquetting being at the forefront due the major price surges in the fossil fuel market.
The project investigated the process of manufacturing biomass briquetting through considering the most suitable material, the material properties and characteristics such as calorific value, ash content, binding etc. After taking all these points into consideration it was important to complete a detailed economic breakdown into the viability of this new venture.
CREST investigated the characterisitcs of the biomass materials, identified the most suitable process for briquetting, examined the suitable machines for drying, shredding, briquetting and bagging of the briquettes and completed a clear economic breakdown of the process.
Through working on the R&D project with CREST, Sheridan Fuels Ltd are now in the position to take this information on board and develop a briquette processing plant at their site.
